Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) is the act of any packet network equipment which is not an endpoint of a communication using non-header content for some purpose. Its purpose is to perform inspections for intrusions, viruses or spam and collects
statistical information. DPI enables advanced network management, security functions as well as data mining and censorship.
Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) is a threat to the idea of net neutrality. The internet service providers should not be allowed to
say what content should be available to the subscribers. The notion of users paying more to the ISPs to get more of a service
is a concession to the net neutrality. The idea that better information is available to some people because they pay more for
the ISP’s services defeats the purpose. Also, firms may take advantage of the system through marketing and data mining by
purchasing or sponsoring the ISPs and thus get an advantage ahead of its competitors.

users’ browsing histories to firms and corporations, it is definitely a threat to the privacy of the users.
